DON’T FORGET! DAY OF THE DEAD AT MESA ARTS CENTER - DONATIONS AND HELP NEEDED

Last year our booth at the Day of the Dead Celebration at Mesa Arts Center was hugely successful, due to our “garage sale” - the selling of items (art, books, accessories and even clothing of Mexican/Latin American theme) donated by our members. We plan to do the same thing again this year, so if you have items to donate, contact Sarah Maresco at 602-861-1129. Dates are October 30 and 31. Thanks to Michael Tomlinson, Maria DeLongy, Greta Mock, Susan Klecka, Frances Burruel, Darlys Zum Brunnen, and Audrey McGovern who have donated items. If you are willing to help either day, please contact Fritz Thomas (602-953-1484).

TUCSON TRIP

Unfortunately, the trip had to be cancelled. All checks have been returned. Perhaps others will be arranged in the

future.

PHOENIX ART MUSEUM

At the May meeting the FOMA Board approved a major grant to the Phoenix Art Museum for a Mexican Show scheduled for July, 2011. Donna Reining and Bets Nenad were very helpful in presenting information to the Board and working with Jim Ballinger and the Phoenix Art Museum. The show will be from a private collection in Mexico City and emphasize Mexican Art from 1920-1950. It will travel to San Diego and a possible third location. More information will be available in the near future about this very exciting event of which FOMA will be a very

important part.

CASA DE NAVIDAD

On Saturday, November 20, FOMA will again present Casa de Navidad - Mexican Christmas ornaments and

accessories presented in a beautiful setting. This was a success last year so we’re doing it again - at the home of Andrea Robinson from 2 - 6 pm.

BOOK CLUB

The Book Club will meet on Tuesday, November 23, at the home of Mary Christensen. The book to be discussed is Feast of the Goat written by the Nobel prize winning Peruvian author, Mario Vargas Llosa. While the Phoenix and Scottsdale libraries do have copies of this book, it would be wise to request yours as soon as possible, as the Nobel

prize has made this a popular reading choice. If you have questions, call Kotzie Wheeler at 480-966-2094.
